BHR Padawan Nature Challenge Returns

APRIL 26, 2010 – BHR Padawan Nature Challenge returns for the 3rd time with an extra category for ladies only and attractive cash prizes for the main category, the MPP Chairman Challenge Trophy. This annual event is jointly organised by Borneo Highlands Resort (BHR) & Padawan Municipal Council (MPP).

The BHR Padawan Nature Challenge 2010 which is going to be held on the 4th July 2010 (Sunday) is a cycling and trekking adventure held in the areas of Annah Rais Long House and Borneo Highlands Resort with competition categories for both experts and amateurs. The Challenge gives opportunity for nature lovers and adventurous individuals to experience the environmental and adventure tourism aspects of the Padawan area aside from promoting healthy lifestyle.

During the recent meeting between the Organising Advisors, Mr. Michael Saweng (Secretary of Padawan Municipal Council) and Mr. Loh Leh Ching (CEO of Borneo Highlands Resort) both concurs that Padawan area have the natural elements and resources that are ideal for eco-adventure, nature and culture tourism which can attract international tourists’ interest. “The BHR Padawan Nature Challenge has the potential to grow into international level event in years to come as there are plans to include more categories and to cover wider areas in the future that will promote the eco-aspects of Padawan,” said Mr Loh.

The main competition category for the Challenge is the MPP Chairman Challenge Trophy with attractive cash prizes awaiting the winners. Participants will begin with a 10KM cycle from Annah Rais Long House up to Borneo Highlands Resort’s plateau area straight away continue on with a 15KM trek up to Mount Penrissen’s peak and back to the plateau area. The Champion team will receive a cash prize of RM4000 plus trophy while the first runner-up will receive a cash prize of RM2000 plus trophy and the second runner-up will receive a cash prize of RM1000 plus trophy.

There are three other categories that will start off from Borneo Highlands Resort’s plateau area. Trekking Group I is a 15KM trek while Trekking Group II & Trekking Group III has a trekking distance of 10KM. “All categories are open to participants who are 18 years old and above regardless of their gender except for Trekking Group III category as it is a ladies only category,” said Mr Abdul Razak, the Co-Organising Secretary who is also Padawan Municipal Council’s public relations officer.
